NETFLIX — NAKOMA’S NEW NEIGHBOR

Plumas County Offers High-End Real Estate

A May 2, 2024, article on SFGate.com confirmed what was for the most part an open secret in the area; Eastern Plumas County has a new neighbor — Netflix.

Yes, Netflix, the world’s largest streaming service and production company based in Los Gatos, now has a “campus” in the Lost Sierra. In April 2021 with little fanfare, Netflix, using the name Plan C Holdings, LLC, purchased the 1,120-acre Spring Valley Ranch on the western edge of the Sierra Valley for $6.9 million. Since then, the company has invested more than two years worth of work on the property.

And when we say “neighbor”, Netflix is practically that. As the crow flies, Spring Valley Ranch is about three miles and a ridgeline east of Nakoma.

For all the Netflix ranch details read the SFGate story here. To make a long story a little shorter, the Netflix plan for Spring Valley Ranch is as a corporate campus that hosts employee training, workshops and retreats in a truly bucolic mountain setting.

While it’s served as a working property for decades, Spring Valley Ranch  is anything but a bare-bones cow camp. Nestled in the pines and meadows that point down to the edge of the vast Sierra Valley, the property features a 5,200-sqft. main home along with a pool and spa area and other amenities. There is also a two-story guest house, barns and a recreation building with sleeping loft and an additional kitchen.

LOCATION. LOCATION. BEAUTY.

Spring Valley Ranch is 45 minutes north of Truckee and was chosen by Netflix for a number of reasons, including fiber-optic broadband service in the area, drivable proximity to Silicon Valley, and access to Reno-Tahoe International Airport. About an hour away, RNO offers one-stop connections to larger cities making the Lost Sierra both a practical and beautiful satellite location for the entertainment tech giant.

Well, tech giants or any other entrepreneurs/lovers-of-wide-open-spaces/real estate investors searching for opportunities that are difficult to find in Truckee or Lake Tahoe these days.

And for those who fly privately there is Beckwourth-Nervino Airport, an easy 15-minute drive from Nakoma. Owned and operated by Plumas County, Beckwourth-Nervino Airport offers 100LL JET-A fuel and a 4651-ft. x 75-ft. runway.

HIGH END + HIGH COUNTRY

Like Spring Valley Ranch and Nakoma real estate, Plumas County real estate holds other hidden gems. There are completed transactions near the 1,280-acre Nakoma Community that show not only significant investment in the area, but also an appreciation for the natural beauty and elbow room afforded by the wide-open spaces in Nakoma’s big backyard.

Evans Ranch, a 10-minute drive from Nakoma, sold for $14.9 million. Designed and built by a gaming tech entrepreneur, the nearly 600-acre property near Graeagle boasts a 16,000-sqft lodge, carriage house, bunkhouse, caretaker’s house, barn, and more. Evans Ranch is a truly impressive property — check it out here.
